Responsibility

HMC values high standards of Quality Assurance, Safety, Health and Environment (QA/SHE) as much as technical excellence. QA/SHE is about preventing harm to people and the environment. Demonstrating that we care is an essential aspect of our business operations both on and offshore.

An integrated management system captures HMC’s approach to QA/SHE. HMC employees can access QA/SHE manuals and tools online and apply and adjust them in their daily work. This management system also enables us to offer our clients the reliable service they expect. Ensuring QA/SHE compliance is an integral part of the tender and project phases of our work. We verify that our suppliers meet our QA/SHE standards.

We demand commitment and visible personal leadership in QA/SHE from all our employees.

Quality

HMC embraced management systems as early as 1984. Our integrated QA/SHE system is in compliance with legal, industry and HMC standards, certified to ISO 9001-2008, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and the International Management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships and Pollution Prevention (ISM code).
By standardizing our processes, we manage our work more efficiently. Our people are responsible for using these standards and train new staff in their use. Regular audits allow us to adjust and continuously improve our approach.

Safety

HMC is committed to maintaining an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) workplace at all times. HMC strives to identify and eliminate foreseeable hazards and reduce the probability of incidents which may result in personal injuries, illnesses and damage to property and the environment to a level as low as reasonably practicable.

HMC’s IIF programme encompasses regular training sessions to all operational personnel to create awareness about upholding recognized safety standards. Anyone who deems that work cannot be or is not being executed safely, has the authority and obligation to stop the job and initiate action to rectify unsafe conditions.

Health

Our goal is to create a safe and healthy working environment for our staff, subcontractors and clients on our vessels and sites. Through regular assessments of potential health hazards on our vessels, other workplaces and offices we identify and address potential health problems. In addition, HMC personnel working offshore receive regular medical check-ups to detect any medical or occupational health-related issues so that appropriate action may be taken at an early stage.

Environment

We track the environmental aspects related to our assets and activities to set annual targets for the continual improvement of environmental performance and prevention of pollution. To achieve this, we pay special attention to:

  • minimize physical damage to the environment and disturbance to flora and fauna
  • minimize exposure of the environment to harmful materials
  • use environmentally friendly materials where available and reasonably practicable
  • optimize energy usage by developing and implementing efficient procedures and equipment
  • eliminate or reduce waste generation at the source
  • optimize waste recycling
