Because of the wide range of jobs we offer, your development is not limited to the area in which you start. We encourage you to broaden your skills and discover other functional areas, particularly if you want to become part of our future leadership.
Your development is not a given, though. We expect you to actively participate in and guide your own development. You are responsible for writing your own personal development plan, and if we subscribe to it, we will support you in realizing your goals.
Starting with Heerema
All new employees participate in a divisional orientation program. This program offers you the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the various activities in the division and the activities of the Heerema Group.
Performance Management
Our employees are periodically assessed on the basis of a set of performance management criteria. Three aspects of employees’ work are rated: how they have contributed to the reputation of Heerema, how the work is done and the extent to which employees have met their personal targets. Employees’ achievements and performance determine the personal bonus and the increase of base salary. This way, employees continue to benefit from their good work.
The performance management discussions are also used to discuss personal development and the outcome is often fed into a personal and professional training program. A Personal Development Plan is created to clarify learning objectives and educational needs. Some roles can have different career paths within the company. As an engineer, you can transition into a commercial role and apply technical expertise in a sales setting. Alternatively, you may want to move towards project management or invest in your knowledge and become a specialized engineer. Coaching and mentoring are part of our development strategy.
Development Programs
We want our people to develop beyond their immediate area of expertise and have a great career. Employees who are clear about their ambitions, for example by using a Personal Development Plan (PDP), will be supported in realizing them. The Heerema Group of companies offer different structured development programs.
Professional Skills Programs
These programs are delivered at a divisional level and aim to develop and enhance your professional skills. Topics range from specific technological courses to effective time management, and aim to enhance your personal effectiveness and skill set.
Career Development Progam
The Career Development Programs (CDP) are run by the divisions and are available at three levels. These programs focus on self-awareness, self-management and team work. Depending on your career path, different skills, knowledge and behaviors are trained. The CDP is developed and conducted in cooperation with In-Context.
The Leadership Development Program
The Heerema Group offers some of its most talented and ambitious employees the opportunity to participate in a Leadership Development Program (LDP). This training program is a Heerema Group-wide program offering participants a cross-divisional network. The program is set up in three phases: leading yourself, leading others and leading the business. For the first and second phases, participants are invited to four one-week gatherings outside of the office, enabling team work and coaching. The program has been set up in close cooperation with Krauthammer International, a leading consultancy-based business trainer.
IMD
Heerema sends a select group of people to the renowned IMD Business School in Lausanne, Switzerland. The school's highly ranked executive management programs challenge our employees to stay and think ahead of the business.
