The team successfully sails a J22 sailing boat. </p>

<div align="center"><img height="217" alt="&#8220;LIFE is too short to SAIL slow&#8221; team in action" src="/Portals/3/Docs/NewsMedia/News/20080912/sailing.JPG" width="325" border="0" /></div>
</div>
<p>&#8220;We are proud to be the new main sponsor of this very successful team,&#8221; says Dido van Holthe, Manager Corporate Communications. &#8220;This team has already won many trophies in its J22 class: several European championship titles, and a world championship title in 2006. Their goal is to become world champion in 2010, when the tournament will be held in the Netherlands. HMC supports their ambition and that is why we became their new sponsor.&#8221; </p>
<p>With the sponsor contract HMC increases its visibility among water sports minded people, a logical connection for an offshore company. &#8220;Many of our employees enjoy water sports and have a competitive attitude. The sailing team is aiming to be first in championships. That is also what HMC is about: we strive to be the best in our work all over the world&#8221;, Van Holthe concludes.</p>
<p>The first big upcoming event for the &#8220;LIFE is too short to SAIL slow&#8221; team is the national Dutch championship, which will be held from 12-14 September in Workum. We wish the team smooth sailing and a ranking among the best.</p>
<p><strong>Update</strong> <br />
Between September 12 and 14 the Dutch national championships were held over 10 races by a fleet of 22 boats on the eastern part of the IJsselmeer, outside the town of Workum. Team HMC, consisting of Jeroen den Boer (helmsman), Sanne Botterweg (mainsail trimmer and pit), Martijn Punt (trimmer) and Florence van Mierlo (bow and tactics),&nbsp;secured the title during the final race.&nbsp;They&nbsp;finished in the top three in eight of the 10 races.&nbsp;</p>

In this phase the topsides were removed and subsea work was carried out to remove a great number of structures like anodes, conduits and densitometers in preparation for removing the jacket in 2009. <br />
</div>
<div>HMC&#8217;s semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV) Hermod commenced the removal campaign on May 7. The challenging project was characterized by an excellent safety record (no LTIs &#8211; Lost Time Incidents), which is all the more impressive considering the more than 100,000 man hours spent on the platform. During the 114 days of the project, 18 days of fierce weather downtime was experienced, which caused delays to both Hermod and the five transportation barges. </div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>
<div align="center"><img height="228" alt="" src="/Portals/3/Docs/NewsMedia/News/20080903/NWHutton2.jpg" width="320" border="0" /></div>
</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>One of the successes of this campaign was managing the hook down, removal and subsea activities in parallel. For three months Hermod berthed and fed 360 people (her maximum capacity) working around the clock. The welders did outstanding work with only three cut-outs in thousands of meters of welds, and the marine and tug crews dealt with the ever-changing weather conditions and logistics. All of the 21 lifts were critical in their own respect, in particular the eight which came close to the maximum capacity of the crane. The position of Hermod and the cargo barge was essential to the success of the lifts. </div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>The structures have now arrived at the Able recycling yard in Teesside, UK, where they will be dismantled further and largely recycled. HMC will return to NW Hutton in 2009 to remove the jacket. </div>

Accompanied by Manager Technology Jurgina Feith and Jaap Zwikker, Vice President Commercial and Business Development for the Asia Pacific region, Mr. Reed cut the ribbon and declared the office open for business. <br />

<div>
<div align="center"><img height="235" alt="" src="/Portals/3/Docs/NewsMedia/News/20080829/Bangalore.jpg" width="314" border="0" /></div>
</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>The new office was set up in line with HMC's strategy to reenter the Asian markets. In conjunction with a spate of recently awarded large projects, including the largest project in the Company&#8217;s history &#8211; a US$ 1 billion contract off the coast of Angola &#8211; and the already significant existing backlog, the demand for engineering work has grown proportionally. </div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>HMC is therefore intensifying its recruitment drive in both the national and international arena. One way in which HMC reaches the international labor market is through opening local offices. Recently we also opened an engineering office in Groningen, the Netherlands, and we are expanding our engineering base in the US and Mexico as well. </div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>For the time being, the Bangalore operation will mostly support global engineering efforts in HMC&#8217;s Leiden and Houston offices. Initially the office will provide work to some 20 people, but the plan is to expand to 35 people by the end of the year. Although the Bangalore office is primarily an engineering office, it has the capabilities to expand to a commercial office in future. </div>

<br />
Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) has been awarded the URF-1 Risers and Production Flowlines contract for the first Project ,&#8216;PSVM&#8217; (Plutao, Saturno, Venus and Marte fields) in the BP Angolan Program.</div>
<div><br />
This 1 billion US$ contract -the largest contract in HMC&#8217;s history- covers engineering, procurement, construction, installation (EPCI) and the testing of Pipe-in-Pipe production flow lines, service flow lines as well as vertical riser systems. The award is the first out of a framework of up to four (4) potentially similar projects off the coast of Angola.</div>
<div><br />
The award confirms HMC&#8217;s solid reputation in the deepwater construction market. Steve Preston, Executive Vice President Commercial: &#8220;We are very proud to have won this contract. The contract proves the trust of our clients in our ability to perform in this challenging market. Over the last five years, we built up tremendous expertise in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico. With our clients, new technologies were developed. Now that the deepwater development off the West African coast is booming we will be able to export this unsurpassed deepwater development expertise to this region and its local stakeholders.&#8221;<br />
<br />
The award is the first out of a framework of up to four (4) projects. HMC sees this award as part of its strategic repositioning of the deepwater construction vessel &#8216;Balder&#8217; to West Africa and serving deep water projects in the long term in this region. The BP Program framework Agreement provides a business level to support HMC&#8217;s strategic repositioning and also allows HMC to increase local presence and to contribute to sustainable Angolan development. As part of the holistic approach, HMC plans to invest in the set up of local offices, an Angolan Marine Transport Company as well as an integrated Marine Construction Support Base / Multi-Joint Yard. Steve Preston adds: &#8220;The holistic approach will also stimulate the existing Angolan industry. The majority of the onshore fabrication work will be performed by Angolan yards. This will deliver many man years of work for the existing Angolan industry. Also, during the project, many Angolan nationals will be employed by the new HMC local marine base and Multi-Joint Yard.&#8221;</div>
<div><br />
The pre-sanction engineering has started. The offshore installation work is expected from mid-2010 onwards and will be performed by the deepwater construction vessel &#8220;Balder&#8221;. The welding technology will be supported by Pipeline Technique Ltd (PTL), HMC&#8217;s recently acquired welding specialist in Scotland.<br />

HMC hopes by having an office in Groningen it will be an attractive employer for technically educated people in the north of the Netherlands.<br />
</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><img height="209" alt="Groningen office building" src="/Portals/3/Docs/NewsMedia/News/20080602/Groningen.jpg" width="314" border="0" /> &nbsp;<br />
&nbsp;</div>
<div>HMC was recently awarded a number of large projects, among these the dismantling and removal of nine platforms in the North Sea. These projects demand a thorough technical preparation and supervision to guarantee an effective and safe execution. This leads to an increase in the demand for properly qualified technical personnel. Research has shown that there is an adequate pool of resources with a technical background and some work experience in the north of the Netherlands. By opening an office in Groningen, HMC will have access to a pool of potential new hires outside the main urban centers in the west of the Netherlands. </div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>The hiring of new employees for the Groningen office is going well. &#8220;In a short period we hired eight new people, especially engineers and draftsmen. Several of them were looking for a challenging technical position, but didn&#8217;t want to move to the west of the Netherlands. We offer these people a new challenge in an international industry, which is developing rapidly,&#8221; says Fr&#233; Olthof, manager of the Groningen office. By the end of 2008 HMC needs 15 people working in Groningen, and early next year 25. </div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>HMC will move into an office at 87D Peizerweg, Groningen. Required IT infrastructure and CAD stations for the draftsmen are being installed. The office building meets all modern demands. The building can be reached easily by car and public transport and has modern fitness facilities. </div>

<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>HMC's Executive Vice President Commercial Steve Preston says this contract offers a unique opportunity to not only re-enter the Asia-Pacific market but also to demonstrate our client&#8217;s confidence in HMC to deliver such a large project in a remote region. </div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>The substructure will be installed in 125 meters water depth and is planned to take place in 2011. The topside of 23,600 metric tons will be installed with the float-over method in 2012. The transport and float-over are planned to be performed with HMC&#8217;s barge H851, currently the world&#8217;s largest launch barge. The topsides will be fabricated in South Korea.<br />

In just 14 months from concept to delivery, the Thialf has been fitted with a PLET (Pipe Line End Terminal) reconnect tower, an A&amp;R (Abandonment &amp; Recovery) Winch and&nbsp;four additional&nbsp;six-cylinder engines to increase the vessel&#8217;s Dynamic Positioning (DP) capacity.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><img height=250 alt="Thialf PLET Support Tower" src="/Portals/3/ThialfPLET.jpg" width=167 align=right border=0 longDesc="Thialf PLET Support Tower">The upgrade project was executed while the Thialf was carrying out its normal duties at a variety of projects. Normally the Thialf has an average crew of 275, during the upgrade project the Thialf housed up to 500 people of 13 different nationalities.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><strong>Technical Details</strong> </div>
<div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
</div>
<div>For the DP upgrade the thruster capacity was increased to six times 70 ton. The upgrade comprised the installation of four engines with all required auxiliaries such as cool water, fuel, lub oil, etc., the installation of four 4600 kW generators, the installation of electrical&nbsp; panels in new switchboard rooms, the installation of a sea chest and extension of the existing pump room as well as the installation of a of Power Management System.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>The successful completion of the project is the result of months of intense work by a dedicated Heerema team, supported by the vessel crew and the crews of the other vessels.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>The upgrade of the Thialf has been one of HMC's most important strategic initiatives to maintain its strong market position in the Gulf of Mexico. </div>

<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>The Deck was installed in Nigerian waters using the so-called float-over method. This involves placing the Deck on a Transportation vessel and outfitting the vessel with equipment to enable it to be pulled between the pre-installed Jacket legs and then for the load to be transferred from the vessel to the jacket in a controlled manner.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>The float-over was the second phase of the EPC1b project, the third and final phase will commence on October 25 using HMC&#8217;s SSCV (semi-submersible crane vessel) Hermod. The first phase took place in 2006 when HMC's SSCV Thialf installed the GX Jacket.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>The GX Deck weighed approx. 11,000 ton and was fabricated by HHI (Hyundai Heavy Industries) in Korea. Following a 37-day sail to Nigeria, Heerema mobilized three tugs, an accommodation support vessel and over 80 persons to manage the float-over operation.&nbsp; The actual float-over completion date of October 14 was only two days behind the original schedule agreed with HHI over two years previously. The two-day delay was due to inclement weather at the very end.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Project Manager Alan Paige says that &#8220;although the float-over crew had to operate in difficult conditions they once again demonstrated that having the hardware is only part of the story and that it is the people that make the difference between success and failure.&#8221; </div>

The work was planned, engineered, and executed to the last detail; notwithstanding, there were setbacks and unforeseen problems. The best know<span class=289404707-04102007>n</span> problem was the Balder flooding incident. As disruptive as the incident was, the recovery of the Balder, in record time while continuing to perform installation activities, shows the character of HMC both onshore and offshore. The success of the&nbsp;<span class=289404707-04102007>Atlantis Flowline </span>project and the groundwork it laid for future projects was a result of the close working corporation between HMC and BP<span class=289404707-04102007> and</span>&nbsp;<span class=289404707-04102007>b</span>oth parties<span class=289404707-04102007>'</span> commitment to safety, quality, production, and attention to details. The offshore success started with a solid onshore foundation and was followed up by outstanding execution by the Balder, HMC PQ Crew, Union Manta and HMC PMT (Project Management Team). It was a job well done by all involved and it was my privilege to have been a part of the&nbsp;<span class=289404707-04102007>Atlantis Flowline</span>&nbsp;Team.&#8221; </p>
<div>Project Manager Bas Zoon<span class=289404707-04102007> added that</span> &#8220;<span class=289404707-04102007>s</span>ince this was HMC's first Pipe-in-Pipe&nbsp;job, a lot of new equipment had to be designed and fabricated. Three years of study and engineering and onshore fabrication were required to prepare all equipment and procedures and complete all tests, to be able to install the 16 by 10 inch PiP system in over 2000 meters of water depth. Most systems on board were loaded to their maximum capacity during installation of these heavy pipelines, especially during the transfer of the riser system to the platform. I am deeply impressed by the skill and team work that were displayed by the onshore preparation team and the offshore installation crews on DCV&nbsp;<span class=289404707-04102007>(Deepwater Construction Vessel) </span>Balder, support vessels and&nbsp;<span class=289404707-04102007>p</span>latform in performing this work.&#8221;<br><br><span class=680533015-03102007><span class=289404707-04102007>A</span>ll Atlantis&nbsp;<span class=289404707-04102007>s</span>ubsea activities have been completed and the Balder has moved on to it's next&nbsp;project.</span>

Her thesis concerns the effect of the reeling installation method on the technical integrity of tight fit pipe when being installed offshore. In cooperation with TU Delft, Dosto Engineering, SenterNovem (Ministry of Economic Affairs) and a Japanese manufacturer of specialist pipe materials (Kuroki T&amp;P), the Ph.D. research project was set up and carried out by Eelke while working for Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC).</p>
<p>HMC entered the Deepwater Subsea market in the late 1990s. Investments in knowledge and development of technology are key factors for success in this market. Welding, Field Joint Coating, Installation methods, but also the use of specialist materials, are areas of technology development that allow HMC to compete.</p>
<p>In 2002 the decision was made to invest in Reeling know-how. A Ph.D. research project was set up to investigate Reeling while using the so called Tight Fit Pipe (mechanically bonded clad pipe). Jan Meek, Professor Offshore Engineering of the TU Delft, and working for the Heerema Group, was the supervisor of Eelke.</p>
<p>Further investigation into the topic is expected. HMC also participates in other joint industry research projects, like welding technologies.</p>

The new vessel will feature unrivalled speeds and state-of-the-art equipment. It will enable HMC to operate in remote areas and ultra deepwater increasing the pace of field development worldwide. Once the vessel enters the market in 2010, it will secure construction capacity for at least another three decades. </div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>The conceptual design was prepared in-house by Heerema Marine Contractors:<br><br><img height=295 alt="" src="/Portals/3/Docs/Corp/News/20070430/newvessel_20070430.jpg" width=374 border=0><br></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>The new vessel will be 220 meters long, 88 meters wide and 44 meters depth. It will have a maximum speed of 20 knots: up to four times the speed of our current deepwater construction vessels. The high speed capacity of the new vessel will dramatically cut travel time between projects and provide our clients with more productivity in a broader range of geographic areas.</div>
<div><br>There will be facilities for 550 people, upgradeable to 750 people. Payload is 25,000 tonnes and the power generation capacity will be of 75 MW. The Dynamic Positioning Station keeping system will be of NMD Class III. </div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>The dual crane capacity of 15,000&nbsp;t enables us to continue installing the largest and heaviest fixed and floating structures to date. The new J-Lay tower and deepwater lowering construction means we can install pipelines and structures from 200 - 3,500 meters water depth with a maximum of 32&#8221; O.D. The tension capacity will be 2,000 t: this is double the capacity of the Balder. </div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div><strong>Opening up the Arctic frontier</strong></div>
<div><br>Because of its design and speed, the new vessel will make offshore construction in the Arctic feasible. The placement of the cranes, the J-Lay tower and other installation equipment, as well as the structural quality of the hull and thrusters, are well suited for the Arctic. </div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Next steps -to be expected this summer- will be the long-lead ordering of key components, such as the cranes and J-Lay Tower. Options are currently being discussed with possible suppliers. </div>

The hub was installed in 8,000 ft deep water and will supply US consumers with 1bn cubic feet of natural gas per day.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>During the course of the Independence Hub project HMC set world records for deepest flow line installation (9,000 ft), deepest SCR installation, longest mooring lines (at 2.4 miles each), deepest suction pile installation (at 8,000 ft), heaviest SCR load (800 t) on a deepwater floating facility, and deepest in-line future tie-in subsea structure.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>The Independence Hub facility consists of a semi-submersible hull, with integrated topsides and a 12-line taut polyester mooring system, which supports the steel catenary risers (SCRs).</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>The SCRs connect a network of flow lines to the hub facility. All gas will flow through one export pipe called the Independence Trail, which export SCR originates from the Hub facility with a 20 inch SCR. </div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>On April 1 the Balder completed the installation by attaching the SCR&#8217;s flex-joint to the porch of the Independence Hub. The 20 inch SCR sets the record for the deepest and heaviest riser installed in the world.</div>

The Balder has been out of order since the 28th of December when an unexpected flooding hit the vessel. Two thrusters of the Dynamic Positioning system were damaged and water came in via a cooling water pipe. No one on board was hurt during the incident and no harm to the environment occurred.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>At the time of the incident the DCV Balder was working in the Gulf of Mexico. Thanks to a quick and professional response from the crew, the situation was brought under control within 90 minutes. In that period of time the operations were successfully and safely stopped without accidents, damage to facilities being installed, or harm to the environment. </div>
<div><br>Immediately after the incident the vessel was able to propel itself to shallow water for a full investigation. The indicated cause of the incident was the inadvertent opening of a cooling water valve during a maintenance operation. Depending on the speed of repairs, the DCV Balder will be operational in February.</div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Heerema's other DCV, Thialf, is en route to the Gulf of Mexico from Brazil and due to arrive in February. The schedules of both vessels will be optimized to minimize the impact on upcoming projects. The Balder will not be fully operational at first and the Thialf can take over some Balder duties.</div>

The decision to introduce a new vessel to the market follows the strategy of HMC. Recently the Advisory Board decided to proceed on the design of the vessel. The estimated investment for the new vessel is 1 billion US Dollar.</P>
<P align=left>The strategy of Heerema Marine Contractors focuses on full field development in the international oil &amp; gas industry, including possible future development in the Arctic.</P>
<P align=left>“Heerema Marine Contractors is known for its strong and successful position as offshore construction contractor. A new generation, deepwater construction vessel is needed to meet the demands of the national and international oil companies. Market developments and needs from customers, as well as our current market position are strong drivers behind the decision to proceed with the design of a new vessel,” explains John Reed, the Chief Executive&nbsp;Officer.</P>
<P align=left>The design of the vessel will begin immediately and will be fast tracked. A tender to select the best shipbuilding yard, which will likely be in Korea or China, will take place in the near future. The new vessel will be exceptional in various aspects: speed, hull shape, pipelay features in deepwater and shallow water, crane possibilities and capabilities to work in the Arctic.</P>
<P align=left>The size of the vessel will be approximately 220m x 88m. The lift capacity of the cranes has to be determined, but will at least be comparable to the capacity of the Thialf. The dual crane capacity of Thialf, the largest crane vessel in the world and part of HMC’s fleet, is 14,200 tons. <P>Heerema Marine Contractors is very pleased to announce that it has again set a world record in installing the world’s deepest permanent mooring piles ever. The installation is part of the Independence Hub project which HMC is currently executing for its client Enterprise Field Services, LLC, in the Gulf of Mexico.</P>
<P>The 18 x 88ft suction piles, with a dry weight of 180mT, were installed at a water depth of 8011 ft (2442m) using the Deepwater Crane Vessel (DCV) Balder. HMC’s previous record with the Balder was BP Atlantis, installed in 2005 at 2,134m.</P>
<P>HMC was awarded the contract for the installation of the piles, the hull, moorings and catenary risers (SCR’s) April last year and started the execution at the beginning of March this year. HMC expect to complete the last phase of the project at the end of this year. <BR>The success of this operation has been possible thanks to the state-of-the-art competence achieved by using technology based on utilizing remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) mounted suction pile pumps and the Balder Mooring Line Deployment Winch (MLDW). </P>
<P>Chief Executive Officer (CEO) John Reed; ”A milestone for the vessel and her crew, who have now shown the industry that HMC is capable of operating in water depths of more than two kilometres (8000ft). To do this successfully, requires great skill, effort and equipment. It also demonstrates our clients that they can rely on HMC’s deepwater construction equipment and it’s built in back up capabilities.” </P>
<P>The Independence Hub is owned by an affiliate of Enterprise Products Partners, LP and Helix Energy Solutions and will be operated by Anadarko Petroleum Corp. Once installed it will be the deepest Floating Offshore Installation (FOI) unit in the world, located in the Gulf of Mexico in Mississippi Canyon block 920 in 8,000' water depth. The Independence Hub will initially provide production facilities for 10 independent fields - Atlas, Atlas NW, Cheyenne, Jubilee, Merganser, Mondo, Q, San Jacinto, Spiderman, and Vortex.</P>

<P>The installation of the SCR’s (20”and 24”) was executed in a waterdepth of 1,840 m and turned out to be the deepest 24” SCR ever installed, which again is a major achievement for HMC.</P>
<P>A steel catenary riser is a pipeline in deepwater which provides the connection between a floating production facility and the pipeline on the seafloor. To construct safely a heavy SCR in deep water, and subsequently hang it off from the Floating production facility, requires a broad field of expertise like welding and Marine Construction.</P>
<P>This time the installation was extremely challenging for HMC as our deepwater construction vessel Balder required a good weather window of minimum 7 days for each SCR, which goes far beyond the duration of any reliable weather forecast.</P>
<P>The SCR Campaign for the Mardi Gras Thunder Horse started initially in June ’05, but could not be completed then due to the ballast incident of the Thunder Horse platform in the Gulf of Mexico. This platform tilted July last year following the passing of Hurricane Dennis after which HMC received a ‘service contract’ from BP.</P>

The Mad Dog spar which is located in Green Canyon Block 782 in a water depth of approximately 1,348 metres is the first permanent polyester mooring system to be installed in the Gulf of Mexico. It has the largest diameter polyester rope ever made, with a jacketed diameter of 270mm and required the largest quantity of polyester mooring tethers ever produced for a single offshore mooring project.<br><br>Using its Deepwater Construction Vessel (DCV) Balder, HMC has installed several chain/spiral strand wire mooring systems. However this was the first installation of a polyester mooring system. The Balder&#8217;s unique large mooring line deployment winch was used to handle the extensive quantity of polyester rope required for this project.<br><br>In preparing the installation, the HMC project team took both the similarities and differences of installing a polyester system to a sheathed spiral strand system into consideration. Since polyester ropes may not come in contact with the seafloor, HMC developed procedures to keep the polyester off the seafloor during all phases of the installation. Another area where differences applied in the approach is the vulnerability of polyester rope for contact with sharp edges, steel wires and heat. Snagging or tearing of any of the fibres could reduce the efficiency of the ropes strength in the future. <br><br>HMC project manager Michel Hendriks said: &#8220;From the award of this contract and throughout the entire project, forward planning by the HMC installation team in close liaison with industry experts and our Client BP, and the understanding of the particularities / features involved with polyester were key factors which ensured the total success of this first permanent polyester mooring system installation in the Gulf of Mexico.&#8221;<br></div>

The recent installation of ExxonMobil Ringhorne deck by SSCV Thialf weighed 11,520 tonnes. The deck weight was only 200 tonnes lighter than the heaviest lift ever performed.</div>
<p>A spokesman for HMC added: "This is a great achievement for Heerema Marine Contractors. Lifts of this size take a tremendous amount of planning, preparation and close co-operation with all parties involved, ExxonMobil, the field operators and Heerema T&#248;nsberg/ABB, the deck designers and fabricators. HMC has again demonstrated why it leads the way in heavy lifts. We are proud to be able to add the Ringhorne lift to our already impressive list of achievements, safely and successfully installed.'</p>
<p>Ringhorne was an EPCI project awarded in August 2000 to Group Company, Heerema T&#248;nsberg, with the transportation and installation of both the jacket and deck being carried out by HMC's SSCV Thialf.</p>
<p>Earlier this year, Heerema Marine Contractors established a world water-depth record for the installation of the BP Horn Mountain SPAR mooring line system, which was installed in deep waters of 1,650 meters (5,500 feet) off the Gulf of Mexico and subsequently its deck installation.</p>

<p>After several month of delay in installation and as the completion deadline for a heavy deck to be lifted was nearing, HMC was approached to provide help and assistance. Oil Company, Kerr-McGee's Boomvang massive deck needed to be installed onto an already positioned SPAR, situated in the Gulf of Mexico. Timing to meet completion deadlines was critical. The window for HMC to complete the work was within four weeks. This was from receiving the order to completing the installation!</p>
<p>The project was originally scheduled to be installed in December 2001, but due to different technical reasons the installation was delayed for several months.</p>
<p>As time became critical HMC was approached by Kerr-McGee to install the heavy deck and had just four weeks to achieve the result. But, before the deck could be moved or lifted, modifications would need to be carried out to enable the HERMOD to lift the weighty deck. Changes had to be made to the lift configuration and two lift points were added, as the initial lifting points were designed for its original contractors. The depth of the water in which the deck had to be installed was deep. Therefore, an appropriate mooring system had to be quickly calculated and prepared. All of the engineering work had to be completed before the deck, 5,000 metric tonnes, could be transported and lifted onto the SPAR.</p>
<p>Once all the engineering and modifications were complete, the deck was lifted and successfully installed in a one day operation. Perfectly executed on time!</p>

<p>The BP Horn Mountain SPAR project set the new record with its mooring line system, which was installed in deep waters of 1,650 meters (5,500 feet) off the Gulf of Mexico.</p>
<p>The SPAR project, installed in two phases, saw the world record broken during the first phase of the project, with the installation of the mooring line system. The mooring line system consists of nine piles, each pile being 5.5 metres in diameter and 27 metres long. The length of each mooring line is 2,300 meters and is made up of three sections. One section, 75 metres of chain link (each link being 14cm in diameter) and two sections of heavy steel wire also 14cms in diameter.</p>
<p>The world record set by Heerema Marine Contractors was established in April 2002 and was the first project to be carried out by the Balder after its deep water conversion.</p>
<p>The Balder's conversion has made installations of this nature possible. With deeper installations yet to be installed later this year by the company, HMC is perfectly placed to meet the ever demanding challenges of the offshore industry.</p>
