Murchison Platform Removal Successfully Completed
Murchison Platform Removal Successfully Completed by Heerema - AF (HAF) Offshore Decom Consortium
On September 12th 2014, CNR International (CNRI) contracted the HAF Consortium, consisting of Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) and AF Offshore Decom (AFOD), for the full Engineering, Preparation, Removal, and Disposal (EPRD) of the Murchison platform, comprising of a 24,000 tons topside and a 14,000 tons jacket.
On June 19th 2017, by use of HMC’s Heavy Lift Vessel Thialf, the HAF Consortium safely offloaded the lower section of the Murchison Jacket on the quay of AFOD’s Environmental Base in Vats, Norway, marking the successful completion of the offshore removal phase of the Murchison platform. The fixed price contract where the outcome was defined but the method and timing was at the Consortium’s discretion enabled this phase of the overall Murchison decommissioning project to be completed two years ahead of its original schedule.

This morning, Sunday September 30, Heerema’s Aegir successfully installed the DOT wind turbine on its previously installed monopile connected by a Slip Joint. Heerema Marine Contractors, part of the SJOR-consortium, decided to step into this project to present herself to the industry as an installation contractor who is also focusing on the transportation and installation of wind turbine foundations & turbines. The DOT wind turbine is located in the Eneco’s Princess Amalia Wind Park off the coast of IJmuiden, the Netherlands. The complete wind turbine was picked up in a single lift by Heerema’s lift vessel Aegir from the quay of Sif Rotterdam and transported towards its designated location. The fully assembled turbine was installed by Aegir as a floating vessel and kept in position by Dynamic Positioning (DP). The installation of the wind turbine took less than 1 hour in total, which is noticeably faster than usual installation.
